The main premise of the book is that human bodies are being found all over L.A. I promise, in the books it’ much easier to follow! This due to then being part Fair folk and the Cold Peace declared that Fair folk could not be trusted. While, Helen his elder sister is being kept on Wrangel Island in exile by the Clave. After the Dark War, the faeries took Julians brother Mark and he is now a member of The Wild Hunt. After the war, a Cold Peace was brokered, which sets out numerous rules of what shadowhunters, Faerie folk and other living in the secret world. The setting for this book is five years after the shadowhunters fought in The Dark War. It centres around Emma and Julian, both orphaned with Emma having lived with Julian and his siblings for several years, to her the Blackthorns are home.Įmma and Julian are shadowhunters and ‘Parabatai’ – a partner in battle, best friends, bound to fight for your life but not allowed to fall in love with you – You can see where this is going, can’t you. This book takes place in a secret world where shadowhunters, demons, vampires, warlocks and faeries exist. It has made me want to go and read ‘The Mortal Instruments’ now though – Very unhelpful, my tbr pile is out of control as it is! Cassandra Clare, has a knack at interweaving previous plot lines and information from other books into the current novel – Very helpful. Which didn’t see me at the disadvantage, I initially thought. I haven’t read any of her other novels, so I came into this new collection blind. I picked this book up a while ago when it was on offer in Waterstones, but thanks to a #buddyread with on Instagram, it was brought to the front of my tbr pile.Ĭassandra Clare, is a huge deal in the young adult fiction community, she has written several books and has a very tight knit fan base following.
